Connect with Your Advisor

Drop-in career advising

We offer drop-in advising in person, video chat, and phone during the Fall and Spring terms. During the summer, meet with an advisor via appointment.

Spring 2025 Drop-In Hours begin January 21st, 2025 and end Thursday, May 1st, 2025.

Drop-in hours are:

  • Monday 12-2pm CST
  • Tuesday-Thursday: 12-1pm CST

Drop-ins are intended for quick (10-15 minute) career-related questions about your resume and/or cover letter, interviewing, Handshake, etc.

Students may have their resume and cover letters reviewed during drop-in advising times as well or may opt to send their application documents into our electronic review service.

If you are visiting us in person, drop by the Advising & Career Center office on the 1st floor of Nancy Nicholas Hall and let the front desk know you’re here for drop-ins.

For students wishing to do drop ins via phone or video chat, the Career Advising Drop-In Advising Form will open 10-15 minutes before each drop-in session begins, and it will close at the end of the session.

If you are unable to access the form, please email careers@sohe.wisc.edu with your Campus ID and if you would like to receive Academic or Career advising. Your information will be promptly added to the drop-in queue and you will be contacted by an advisor when they are available to meet.

Email us

We are happy to communicate with you via email as well. Please try to include all of your questions in one email and be as specific as possible prior to sending for us to best assist you.

Schedule an  appointment

For more in-depth career advising questions, such as major and career exploration, internship challenges, evaluating job offers, etc. schedule an appointment.

Students may schedule 30-minute career advising appointments with a human ecology career advisor using the online Starfish scheduling tool found in the MyUW portal. Search “Starfish” and follow the instructions to schedule an appointment with your assigned career advisor.

You can find out who your advisor is by checking your Student Center.

For resume or cover letter reviews, please use the drop-in advising or electronic document review services first before scheduling an appointment with a professional advisor.

Interview spaces

Space is available in Nancy Nicholas Hall for Human Ecology students looking for a quiet location with reliable internet connection to complete a job or internship interview (virtual and/or phone interviews are the most common).

Interview spaces are available during building hours from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM CST Monday through Friday during the academic year.

Please complete this request form at least 2 business days prior to your scheduled interview. If you are completing multiple interviews, please fill out a form for each. A member of our advising staff will review your request and reach out with more information.
